LIBRARY MATERIAL IN THE ARCHIVE OF SERBS IN CROATIA

Abstract

The Archive of Serbs in Croatia was re-established on November 1, 2006, by the Serbian National Council. The largest part of the archives consists of special materials–recorded documents from the Croatian State Archive and other Croatian archives, and newspaper articles recorded in the National and University Library. With the re-establishment of the Archive of the Serbs in Croatia, the need for the creation of a special archival library emerged. The Library of the Archive of the Serbs in Croatia keeps books, brochures, and magazines that follow the structure of the archival material and are primarily about the culture, art, and science of the Serbs in Croatia. Gifts, donations, and legacies make up the largest part of that material. The material is primarily scientific and is intended for researchers. Library materials are also part of the Archives of Serbs in Croatia collection. Monographs, newspapers, and magazines represent an integral part of the archival units. The collection of offprints represents a special unit formed according to archival principles, concerning the areas where the Serbs in Croatia were the majority. The collection contains 792 offprints placed in 25 boxes. The number and importance of publications within the library collection of the Archive of Serbs in Croatia indicate that it is an important cultural heritage.
