Abstract

The paper demonstrates how the concepts of liberalism negate
the principles underlying the humanist idea of culture, altering the way culture in general is perceived. For the library profession, as part of a broader cultural system, it is imperative to develop critical awareness within society under such
circumstances. Therefore, Kant’s critical method is particularly emphasized in the paper, with its principles recognized in critical cultural theory, as well as his focus on the form of subjectivity, which has proven to be extremely influential
on society. The aim of the paper is to highlight the significant role of librarians in contemporary society, where they are called to actively participate in preserving and shaping cultural consciousness, following the ethical principles of the profession.
